Outdoor living in Westlake, Texas
Austin · Westlake

Outdoor living, built for Westlake.

Westlake covers the hills and canyons west of Lake Austin, from the incorporated pockets of West Lake Hills and Rollingwood to the estate lots of Davenport Ranch and Rob Roy. Homes here are architect-designed and the lots are anything but flat, so we treat every backyard as a design-build project: full outdoor rooms engineered to the grade, the trees, and the level of finish the house already sets. We work as a veteran-founded, BBB A+ accredited builder.

Many Westlake lots drop off toward Lake Austin or a canyon, with mature heritage oaks and limestone shelf to work around. We engineer decks and covers to the actual site, protect the trees the local ordinances protect, and detail railings to keep the view open. Because much of Westlake is mapped as Wildland-Urban Interface, we also plan for wildfire exposure with steel framing and fire-rated materials where the lot calls for it.

What we build in Westlake

Full Outdoor Living Design & Build On architect-designed Westlake homes, we design and build the whole backyard as one project so the finish matches what the house already sets.

Frameless Glass Railing Where lots fall off toward Lake Austin or a canyon, we install engineered frameless glass railing that meets code while keeping the view uninterrupted.

Steel-Framed WUI Decks For canyon-backing homes in Westlake's WUI zone, we build steel-framed, fire-rated decks that address the exposure without softening the design.

Composite Decks Multi-level composite decks follow Westlake's steep grade and hold up to full western sun over the water.

StruXure Motorized Pergolas As the Preferred StruXure Dealer for Austin, we add motorized louvered roofs that shade a terrace without closing off the view.

Outdoor Kitchens We build finished outdoor kitchens to the standard of the house, with utilities run correctly beneath the masonry.

Westlake questions, answered

How do you build on Westlake's steep, wooded lots?

We start from the actual site, the grade, the limestone shelf, and the trees, and engineer footings and framing to suit it rather than forcing a flat pad. On lots that drop toward Lake Austin, that usually means multi-level decks and stepped covers. We also design around protected heritage oaks so the mature canopy stays.

Do West Lake Hills and Rollingwood have their own permits?

Yes. Both are incorporated cities with their own permitting and tree-protection rules, separate from Austin, and unincorporated Westlake areas fall under Travis County. We identify which jurisdiction your lot sits in, pull the right permit, and manage inspections so the approvals stay on one timeline.

Can I keep the view and still meet railing code?

Yes. Engineered frameless glass railing meets the required guard height and load while keeping the sightline open toward the lake or canyon. It is one of the more common requests on Westlake's elevated lots, and we detail the hardware to stay as discreet as the code allows.

Is my Westlake lot affected by wildfire code?

Much of Westlake is mapped as Wildland-Urban Interface, where developed lots meet undeveloped canyon and greenbelt. Where that applies to your home, we favor steel framing and fire-rated decking near the structure. It is a material and detailing decision, not a limit on design.
