Materials here choose themselves: the same limestone the region is built on, laid up in masonry that matches the house and the ground. Placement takes more thought — on the wooded lots toward Boerne and Helotes, where juniper grows close, we favor gas features and site any wood-burning design with clearances that respect the wildfire exposure those ridges carry.
